Newington, GA – Virginia Gail Smoak McIlrath, age 77, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. She was born in Screven County to the late Louie & Mattie Lee Smith Smoak. She was a retired Postmaster, having worked at the post office in Harmony, IN for over 30 years and was a member of Newington United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband: Robert Earl McIlrath; Sisters: Pam S. Ellison and Becky S. Milton; Brother: Louie “June Bug” Smoak, Jr.
Survivors: Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Bobby & Pam McIlrath of Clayton, IN, Ray & Melanie McIlrath and Tim & Sheri L. McIlrath, all of Newington; Brothers and Sisters-in-Law: Gaines & Debbie Smoak and Wayne & Mary Ann Smoak, all of Sylvania and Grady & Anita Smoak of Savannah, GA; 8 Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Graveside Services: Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Newington City Cemetery with Rev. Jim McIlrath and Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler officiating. Burial following. Visitation will be held after the services at the cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers: Women of Newington United Methodist Church.
