Sylvania – Van D. Peel, Jr., of the Bay Branch Community, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021. He was born December 5, 1947 in Jenkins County, Georgia and was seventy-three years old. He was predeceased by his father, Van D. Peel, Sr. and his mother, Myrtle Waller Peel.
Van is survived by his sister, Jane Peel Wilmesherr (Milton) and two nieces: Leigh Wilmesherr Carpenter (Ryan) and Katie Wilmesherr Rankin (Sean). Van is also survived by seven great nieces and nephews: Sophie Grace Carpenter, Sutton Elizabeth Carpenter, Brewer Andrew Carpenter, Lily Margaret Rankin, Lucy Jane Rankin, Logan Andrew Rankin and Luke Scott Rankin.
Van was a graduate of Screven County High School. He was a lifelong member of the Bay Branch Baptist Church. He loved to cut grass, attend church and watch football. Van was the happiest when he was on his lawn mower cutting grass. He faithfully cut the grass at Bay Branch Baptist Church and Cemetery for many years.
Thank you to the people from Bay Branch Baptist Church who took him to church on Sundays. Thank you to the Syl-View Nursing Home staff for taking care of him for the last three years.
A special Thank You to Annora Mallard and her family for the many Sunday dinners he enjoyed at their family home.
Graveside Services: Friday, March 19, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at Bay Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Blake Hicks officiating. Burial following. Visitation will be at the cemetery after the service.
The family requests that everyone wear face masks and practice social distancing during services and burial.
