SUEJETTE "SUE" REDDICK JOYNER

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Suejette “Sue” Reddick Joyner, 85 of Sylvania, on January 20, 2024, at the Pineview Nursing Home in Sylvania, Georgia.

A Screven County native, Mrs. Joyner was the daughter of Walter and Ida (Saxon) Reddick.  She was a homemaker who worked alongside her husband, Bernard Joyner, for many years with various tasks on their family farm. When Mr. Joyner became terminally ill, she cared for him for all the years leading up to his passing in 2003.

Mrs. Joyner was an active member of Goloid Baptist Church for many years and helped with the church choir and Vacation Bible School before later becoming a member of Douglas Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Joyner loved reading her Bible, completing crossword puzzles, keeping up with the latest developments on General Hospital, and spending time with her only grandson Thomas “Cody” Waters as well as cooking and hosting many family gatherings over the years.

Mrs. Joyner was a breast cancer survivor, but in recent years suffered from the debilitating effects of Lewy-Body Dementia.

In addition to her husband Bernard L. Joyner, Suejette “Sue” Reddick Joyner was preceded in death by her sisters, Arnese R. Cochran, Lavada R. Nichols and Carrie Mae R. McKinney, and her brother, Jimmy Reddick.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Belinda S., and Thomas Waters; grandson, Thomas “Cody” Waters; sisters, Wilma Lewis, Pearl Weathersby, Christine Dailey (spouse Bobby Dailey), and Wanda Coleman (spouse Don Coleman); and many loving nieces and nephews, some of whom, Betty Murray, Frankie Markovcic, and Edward Lynn, who visited and cared for her until the very end.

Family and friends will gather, per her wishes, for a simple graveside service on Wednesday January 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Screven County Memorial Cemetery in Sylvania, GA, with a eulogy led by Reverend Dr. Karen Zeigler.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, St. Jude Research Hospital, or Ogeechee Area Hospice.
