SARAH AARON
Sarah Cheryl Waters Aaron, age 76, of Sylvania, GA, and wife of Rupert Larry Aaron, Sr., passed away on Saturday afternoon, April 15, 2023, surrounded by her family, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Sarah was born on June 25, 1946, to the late couple, Ira John Waters and Mary Madge Bassett Waters, in Millen, Georgia. She was a 1964 graduate of Screven County High School. After attending beauty school and a brief career as a hairdresser, Sarah went to work at Bank of Screven County as a teller. She devoted 47 years of service to this community as she changed job titles many times, finally retiring as Vice-President and Branch Financial Manager for BB&T.
Sarah was a member of Sylvania First Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, the Friendship Circle, the Board of Trustees and the Empty Nesters Sunday School Class. Aside from spending time with her precious family, she enjoyed keeping busy in her yard, whether it be picking up pinecones, watering her flowers, or her favorite, cutting the grass.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice W. Griner; brothers, Julian C. Waters and William Ronnie Waters and her sister-in-law Shirley Burke Waters.
Survivors include her husband, Rupert Larry Aaron, Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Allyson Aaron & William Thomas, of Rocky Ford; son and daughter-in-law, Rupert Larry Aaron, Jr. & Serran Dixon Aaron, of Jesup; 6 grandchildren, Mallory Aaron, McKenzie Aaron, Taylor Aaron, Caitlyn & Rhett Thompson, Emily Thomas and Tucker Thomas, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 o’clock on Monday evening, April 17, 2023, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Sylvania First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Dorsia Atkinson and Rev. Matthew Kersey. Interment will follow at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Charlie Aaron, Don Aaron, Glynn Bassett, Tucker Thomas, Rhett Thompson and Chris Waters.
Honorary Pallbearers include Davy Wells, Glenn Davis, Don Jamerson, Becky Jones, Mary Matthews, Penny Roundtree, Kaye Smith, Connie Beasley, Stephanie Mathis and the Friendship Circle.
Memorial contributions can be made to Sylvania First United Methodist Church Music fund or Ogeechee Area Hospice, Statesboro, GA.
