Sylvania – Jimmy Drew Mulkey, age 91, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Colquitt, GA to the late Lee Preston & Chloe Sheffield Mulkey. He was 11 years old when he gave his life to the Lord at First Baptist Church of Colquitt, GA and surrendered to preach at the age of 28 (1958). He was ordained in 1959 by the Immanuel Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL, married his sweetheart, Kay Ford Fuller on August 7, 1982, becoming a loving stepfather to 2 beautiful daughters, Paige and Jennifer. He was educated in the public school in Miller County, GA, where he participated in athletics in high school (baseball, football, track and basketball), was a graduate of Norman Collage of Norman Park, GA with AA Degree in 1961, of Belmont College of Nashville, TN with a BA Degree in 1965 and of Southwestern Seminary of Forth Worth, TX with a BD Degree in 1969. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served from 1951 to 1952. He worked as a meat cutter for 11 years for A&P, Swift and Company and Jitney Jungle. His pastorates include: during college, Poulan Baptist Church, Poulan, GA (1959-1962) and Westview Baptist Church (mission of Belmont Heights BC, Nashville, TN) (1963-1965): during seminary, Voca Baptist Church, Caney, OK (1966-1967) and Immanuel Baptist Church, Onley, TX (1967-1969): since completing seminary, First Baptist Church, Ashland City, TN (1969-1971), Milford Baptist Church, Leary, GA (1972-1975), Central Baptist Church, Americus, GA (associate pastor/minister of education (1975-1976)), Interim and supply from October 1976 to September 1978, Director of Missions for the Middle Baptist Association, Sylvania, GA (1978-June 1996 (his retirement)) and then was an association missionary. His work as interim and supply since his retirement: Interim pastor for Owego Southern Baptist Church, Owego, NY (January 1997 to August 1997), for Union Baptist Church, Sylvania, GA (September 2000 to May 2001), for LaSalle Baptist Church, Niagara Falls, NY (August 2002 to March 2003), for Baptist Church of Ellington, Ellington, NY (October 2005 to February 2006) and has been involved in prison ministry in Screven County since 1988. He was a member of Sylvania First Baptist Church and besides his parents, was preceded in death by his sister, Veda M. Rigsby and brother, Rosby Mulkey.
Survivors: Wife: Kay Ford Mulkey of Sylvania; Stepdaughters and Son-in-Law: Paige Fuller of Swainsboro, GA and Jennifer & James “Buddy” Hoskins of Bainbridge, GA; Brother and Sister-in-Law: Lowell & Glenda Mulkey of Dexter, GA; Grandchildren: Kayla Norris of Bainbridge, GA and Preston & Searcy Norris of Athens, GA; 3 Great-Grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews: Jim Daniels of Atlanta, GA, Dean Daniels of Camilla, GA, Gene Mulkey of Dexter, GA, Curtis Mulkey of Weatherford, TX, Taff Douthit of Sylvester, GA, Mona M. McDaniel of Fitzgerald, GA and Wade Douthit of Carrollton, GA.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Sylvania First Baptist Church.
Celebration Service: Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at 3:00 P.M. at Sylvania First Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Cooper and Dr. John Parker officiating.
Graveside Service: Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Colquitt City Cemetery with Rev. Fred White officiating. Visitation will be graveside after services.
