Newington (Blue Springs) – Rev. Henry Franklin Bazemore, Jr., age 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at his home under the care of his loving family and Regency Southern Care Hospice. He was born November 11, 1939, in Jenkins County, GA to the late Henry Franklin Bazemore, Sr. and the late Louise Stafford Bazemore Daughtry. He was a certified electrician with the local Union #508 out of Savannah, GA in the 1960s and after he met the love his life, Laverne, whom he married in May of 1960, he felt led to enter the ministry and was ordained on August 20, 1972, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Savannah, GA. He worked as a Baptist minister for several churches, with his last ministry being at Hiltonia Baptist Church, where he has been since 1991. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Acacia Lodge #452 F&AM in Savannah, GA. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Laverne R. Bazemore, a sister, Wanda B. Austin and a half-brother, T. Nelson Bazemore. Henry was best known as a fisherman and a fisher of men. His favorite verse was Romans 10:9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Survivors: Daughters and Sons-in-Law: Rebecca B. & Bill Hodges and Summer Leigh & Keith Rice, II, all of Newington; Brother and Sister-in-Law: Mike and Melissa Bazemore of Statesboro, GA; Grandchildren: Dr. Lane M. & Dr. Emily Hodges of Murrells Inlet, SC, Landon & Tiffany Hodges, Wyatt R. Rice and West R. Rice, all of Newington; Several Nieces and Nephews and many children who considered him as their Father or PaPa.
Visitation: Friday, August 13, 2021, at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside Services: Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Middle Ground Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Travis Smith officiating. Burial following.
Pallbearers: Dr. Lane M Hodges, Landon H. Hodges, Wyatt R. Rice, West R. Rice, Bill Hodges, and Keith Rice, II, James “Elmo” Haire, Bob Hodges, Rex Austin and Gage Small.
Memorial Contributions are asked to be made to Hiltonia Baptist Church, P O Box 1941, Sylvania, GA 30467.
The family requests that EVERYONE wears a mask and social distance during the visitation and service to help prevent the spread of Covid.
