Kathy W. Murphy, beloved wife of David Murphy and loving mother to Brandon Murphy, passed away on March 7, 2025, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 16, 1957, in Savannah, Georgia, to George Robert Weeks Sr. and Katherine Weeks. Kathy grew up in Effingham County and attended Effingham County High School, where she graduated with honors. She was a cheerleader throughout high school. After high school, she began her working career at Belk in the Crossroads Shopping Center. When the new Belk opened in the Oglethorpe Mall, she moved there and continued her career for many years. After moving to Sylvania, she started a new career with what was formally known as BB&T. She worked there for 17 years.
Kathy loved nothing more than laying on the beach at Tybee working on her tan. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping, and when she was not able to get to the stores, she would resort to QVC! Kathy loved her cats, all seven of them. She enjoyed watching the Hallmark channel and Brit Box, a British channel. She also enjoyed the Christian Network. She was of the Baptist faith.
Kathy is preceded in death by her father, George Robert Weeks Sr.; her father-in-law, Roy L Murphy; her brother-in-law, Charles Fox; and her uncle, Lynwood Long.
She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, David Murphy; son, Brandon Murphy; her mother, Katherine Weeks; Sisters, Sandra Fox, Brenda Rawlins (David) of Statesboro, George Weeks II (LeAnne) of Sylvania, her mother-in-law, DeMaris Murphy; bother-in -law Troy Murphy; sister-in-law, Roiane Mullican; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10th, from 5 to 7 P.M. in the James M. Strickland Memorial Chapel of Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 11th, at 2 P.M. in the James M. Strickland Memorial Chapel of Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home. With Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating.
Burial will follow in Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
