Sylvania – Jewel Smith Davis, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at her residence in Sylvania. She was born in Screven County to the late Solomon D.  & Myrtie Jeffers Smith. She was a graduate of Bessie Tift College with a degree in English and began her teaching career at S.W. DeKalb High School in 1953 and in 1956 began teaching at Screven County High School until her retirement in 1993, after which she retired and went on to enjoy being with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of Sylvania First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 40 years and dearly loved the ladies of the Philathea Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Retired Educators Association of Screven County, of which she was Past-President, a member of the Georgia Polled Hereford Association, Represented District 3 on the Screven County Board of Education for 4 years was a member of the Screven County Livestock Association, enjoyed attending cow shows and was the Grand Marshall of the Screven County Livestock Parade in 2020. She was preceded in death by her Parents and her Husband, Alto Dean Davis, Jr.

Survivors: Daughters and Sons-In-Laws: Deanne D. & Tommy Griffin of Hiltonia and Joy D. & Johnny Sheppard of Sylvania; Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Jeff & Jan S. Davis and Brett & Tracy Davis, all of Sylvania; Sisters and Brother-In-Law: Hazel S. Mock of Evans, GA and Glenda S. & Johnny Armstrong of Sylvania; Brothers: Danny Smith of Sylvania and Bill Smith of Louisville, GA; Grandchildren: Will & Gennie Griffin, Daniel & Sydnee Griffin, Ben & Jessica Griffin, Drew & Stacey Davis, Natalie & Drew Harrison, Stephanie & Nicky Bragg, Tinley Clemens, John David Sheppard, Carlie Jewel Sheppard and Cassie Sheppard; 8 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild; Caregivers: Gladys White, Gwen White, Phyllis Lewis, Shirley Scott and Faith Bragg, who was also her great-granddaughter; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside Services: Saturday, January 9, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Screven County Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Charlie Cooper and Dr. Lamar Holley officiating. Burial following. Visitation will be held after the services at the cemetery.

Pallbearers: Grandsons: John David Sheppard, Drew Davis, Will Griffin, Benjamin Griffin, Daniel Griffin, Drew Harrison and Nicky Bragg. Honorary Pallbearers: Retired Educators Association of Screven County.
