HORACE BIRDETTE BLACK
Horace Birdette Black, 87, of Sylvania, widower of Frances “Jackie” Black, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at his residence.
Horace was born on September 2, 1936, in Candler County, GA, to the late couple George & Geneva Black. Horace was a 3rd class airman in the U.S. Airforce and a member of the Blue Springs Church. He did body and fender work for Chatham County for 20 years before retiring. Horace loved fishing and old automobiles.
In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Frances “Jackie” Black; his stepson, Wayne Edwards; sisters, Lois Grovenstein, Rudale Cartee, Foy Mae Bragg, Irene Eason, Ruth Edwards, Zader Black, Florrie Hughes; brothers, Wallace Black, George Black, Lehman Black, Curtis Black, Chester Black and Lester Black.
Those who will cherish his memory include his stepson, Franklin Edwards; daughters, Angela Black Grimes, Sarah Black Deal; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bill Kent will officiate the service that will commence at 3:00 PM, with interment to follow at Blue Springs Church Cemetery.
