Grace Mock

February 14, 1932 — February 10, 2025

SYLVANIA

Grace Helen Lynch Mock, 92, of Newington, passed away on February 10, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1932, to the late William Hubert Lynch and Annie Augustus Kessler Lynch, the second oldest of 3 children, in Rincon, Ga. She graduated from Rincon High School where she received the Citizenship Award Medal. In 1949, she married the love of her life, the late Alvin J. Mock, Sr., making their home in Springfield, Ga. Grace was a Cub Scout Den mother for several years while living in the Springfield area and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rincon, GA

She and Alvin later made their home in Newington, Ga. where she worked in the restaurant, Nellie Wrea’s Café, and later cooking and serving lunches for the Senior Citizens of the community. Grace was also the President of Mock, Inc. and was on staff of Allstate Truck & Trailer for both owners Jack and Kenny Mock.

A homemaker, nothing brought Grace more joy than raising her family, from her seven children, to assisting her children with their children, being beside her late husband till death they did part, caring for her mother and several people in her community. Grace loved to tell stories from her childhood where she helped her grandfather, Joshua Bunyon Kessler, around the farm. In listening to her tell stories, she had such love and admiration for him. Any opportunity she was given to be by his side, she was there. In the end days, Grace would sit and tell story after story with a smile on her face, she would share fond memories of her time with her cousins. Grace had to care for her mother at a young age, and could easily be thought of as a modern-day Florence Nightingale. There is no doubt when Grace closed her eyes in death, she stood beside Jesus and heard him exclaim, welcome home, thy good and faithful servant. We, as her children, are sure our mother was handed her crown, full of jewels for all the mighty works she has done, being the hands and feet of Jesus, never wanting recognition.

Grace was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church where she taught the WISE Sunday class for many years, typed the bulletin and church newsletter for over 25 years, participated in WMU and sang in the choir but most of all Grace loved being present and having a servant’s heart. Grace would help her daughter with Vacation Bible School, serving meals and rolling lots of pennies. She also loved decorating for all the functions in the social hall as well as Christmas time. Again, noticing the pattern, Grace had such a servant’s heart – doing for others.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin J. Mock Sr., her son, Alvin “Jack” Mock, Jr., and her brothers Billy and Tommy Lynch.

Grace is survived by her six children Alvina Haney, Hinesville, Ga., Marvin (Terry), Oliver, Ga., David (Terri), Lorraine Lee (Mike), Joette Massey (Dwight) and Winston (Jennifer) all of Newington; as well as 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday February 12, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM In the James M. Strickland Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at Green Hill Baptist Church on Thursday February 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Interment following the service will be in the Green Hill Baptist cemetery. Mrs. Mock will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kenny Mock, Alex Mock, Joshua Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins Triston Mock and Chet Arnsdorff.
