Frances Jacqueline “Jackie” Black, 86, of Sylvania, wife of 40 years to Horace Black, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at her Pineview Nursing Home -Sylvania.

Jackie was born on May 20, 1937, in Sylvania, GA, to the late couple Earl & Christine Grovenstein. Jackie was a seamstress and a member of the Blue Springs Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, fishing, and fish frys with family.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Edwards; brothers, Cone Grovenstein, Roy Grovenstein, Gerald Grovenstein, and Herbert Grovenstein; and her sister, Leila Grovenstein.

Those who will cherish her memory include her husband, Horace B. Black; son, Franklin Edwards; grandchild, Charles Earl Edwards; 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ralph Dixon will officiate the service that will commence at 2:00 PM, with interment to follow at Blue Springs Church Cemetery.
