SYLVANIA, GEORGIA
DEMMON GEORGE ROGERS, JR.
Demmon George Rogers, Jr., age 97, of Sylvania, passed away very peacefully in his sleep on Thursday evening, December 7, 2023, at Pineview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center with family at his side.
Mr. Rogers was born in New York in 1926. For 35 years he worked as a painter for the Carrier Corporation. Mr. Rogers fell madly in love with his late wife, Joyce. They started a life together in New York in the early ’50s. Roughly 30 years later, he and his wife fell in love with the south and moved to Georgia in 1984. They enjoyed the life that they had made in Sylvania, Georgia where Mr. Rogers was known for growing plants and a vegetable garden every year. He and his wife would always travel, go on cruises, and meet new people. He volunteered at Sylview Nursing Home on Sundays for church services. Mr. Rogers was known to always read his Bible every night before he would go to bed. He served as a role model for many people and a good and faithful servant for God. After his wife of many years passed, it was hard for him to keep going without her. He then busied himself with his gardening and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Rogers adored his family, and his face would always brighten up when they would come to visit. Every visit that was made, he would always make sure everyone knew how much he loved them, to be careful, and would end the visit walking you out to the door. He lived with his daughter, Ann, for a few months until his illness made him reside in a nursing home. His pride and joy was Precious, Ann’s dog. He attended church with his daughter, Ann, on Sundays at His Grace and always looked forward to attending the services. His Grace gave him a lot of peace and so much love for the surrounding people and the community. His family thanks you for coming and praying for them during this time.
Those who will cherish his memory include his daughters, Diane Voyte and Elizabeth Smalley; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas & Carol Rogers, Richard & Michelle Rogers; brother, Walter Kane Rogers; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
