David W. Lee

SYLVANIA

David Warren Lee was born on April 2, 1940, to Willie Mel Lee and Lillie Mae Penny McClendon of Newington, Georgia. On March 8, 2025, he passed away peacefully under the care of Regency Southern Care, with the compassionate support of his special nurses, Mrs. Nita Guentzel and Helen Goodine.

David was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Bonnie Gail Lee Neal, as well as his brothers Frank E. Lee, Carol D. Lee, Willie "Dink" Lee, James Cecil Lee, William M. Lee, Melvin "Junior" Lee, and Lloyd C. Lee. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Daisy Bell Anderson and Mary "Pansy" Ferguson.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Betty Carol Doyle, whom he married on September 8, 1968. Together, they built a loving family, including their children: Rebecca Lynn Lee Bragg Zelt, Bernice Davina Lee, Penny Mae Lee Morris, and Betty Ann Lee Scott. David also held a special place in his heart for his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Andy Osteen, and a special son, David Owens. 

His legacy continues through his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 David was a man of many talents and a dedicated worker. He was last employed as a private contractor with Planters Telephone in Newington, Georgia. Throughout his life, he took on numerous roles, including working as a truck driver for Joe Evans Logging, a police officer for the Hiltonia and Savannah Police Departments, a foreman at Empire Lumber Company, and a dozer operator for the Screven County Waste Department. He also served as a correctional officer at Screven Correctional Institution, worked in road construction for Knox and River, operated machinery at Sylvania Spinning Plant, conducted private investigations for Campbell Investigations, and worked as a trainman for Georgia Central Railroad. 

David was a member of Middle Ground Baptist Church. 

Beyond his impressive work ethic, David had a deep love for the outdoors. He found great joy in fishing and caring for his farm animals, but nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his family. He was a man of strength, wisdom, and kindness, always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge with those around him.David Warren Lee leaves behind a lifetime of love, hard work, and cherished memories. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.


A memorial service will be held on Wednesday March 12, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the James M. Strickland Memorial Chapel of Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home.
