SYLVANIA

Mrs. Betty Calvert Ayers, aged 93, passed away on Saturday, April 19th, 2025 at her home in Sylvania, Georgia. She was born on May 7th, 1931, in Ashville, Alabama, the fifth of ten children born to the late Walter F. and Louise G. Calvert. In 1949 she married Carl H. Ayers, and they raised three children in Augusta, Georgia.

Betty was a member of McDonald Baptist Church in Screven County, where she sang in the choir. She was an avid gardener and a former member of the Screven County Garden Club. She enjoyed flower arranging, and she won many awards in flower shows sponsored by the Garden Club. She loved walking on the beach and collecting shells, which she used in many creative projects that produced beautiful decorative works of art for her home and the homes of family and friends. Betty truly cherished spending time with children, especially making many wonderful memories with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters, her husband of sixty five years, Carl H. Ayers, Sr., and her son, Carl H. Ayers, Jr. (Butch). She is survived by her daughter, Carla A. Beasley (Barnie), a son, James Phillip Ayers (Carol), four grandchildren, Heather B. Terry (Wes), James Ryan Beasley, Dori A. Still (Cole), and Duff Beauregard Ayers (Ashley). She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and two sisters, Sandra C. Penn and Mary C. Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the James M. Strickland Memorial Chapel of Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home, Sylvania. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the Chapel with Ogeechee Area Hospice Chaplain Nick Spletstoser officiating. Interment will be at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Beasley, Duff Ayers, Wes Terry, Cole Still, Barnie Beasley, and Wilton Stubbs. Honorary pallbearers will be members of McDonald Baptist Church, Michelle Stubbs, and Betty’s three loving and devoted caregivers, Rhonda Cook, Judy Haman, and Amanda Waters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo St., Statesboro, Georgia, 30458.

Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
