Alvin Jackson “Jack” Mock Jr., age 71, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at MCG in Augusta, GA. Born on November 29, 1952, to the late Alvin Jackson Mock Sr. and Grace Helen Lynch Mock, Jack was the second oldest of seven children. He was born in Springfield, GA, and graduated from Pepperell High School in Lindale, GA, Class of 1971; however, he would later call Newington, GA, his home.
A lifelong welder, he started working with Great Dane Trailers in Savannah, GA, and soon ventured out on his own as Jack’s Welding, which later became Allstate Truck and Trailer. Jack had a knack for being an entrepreneur, taking on business ventures such as Newington Hardware, Allstate Storage and Jack’s Deer Processing. He was also an avid beekeeper.
Jack loved his community and served on the Newington Town Council for many years, he was also Mayor Pro Tem, and a member of the Newington Area Fire Department, where he was fire chief for many years, and even served as the Police Commissioner. He was dedicated to serving his community.
Anyone who knew Jack knows he was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, squirrel hunter (raising feist) and coon hunter with many tales to tell about each. He was a member of the Spring Lake Hunting Club, Deer Haven Hunting Club and Poor Robin Hunting Club – Do you see the pattern? He loved the outdoors! Jack was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Jackson Mock Sr.; his first wife, Debbie Mock; second wife, Karen Martin Mock; paternal grandparents, Walker and Irene Mock; maternal grandparents; Hubert and Annie Lynch, as well as his brother-in-law, David Jenkins.
Jack is survived by his son, Kenny Mock and his wife, Mary Ann of Sylvania; grandchildren, Macy Hughes (Blake), Vince Mock (Kayla) and Hunter Mock (Kallie); two great grandchildren, Reid Hughes and Brixton Mock; his six siblings, Alvina Haney of Hinesville, GA, Marvin Mock (Terry) of Oliver, GA, David Mock (Terri), Lorraine Lee (Mike), Joette Massey (Dwight) and Winston Mock (Jennifer) all of Newington, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack also leaves his fur companions: Boots, Daisy, Tig Tig, Dottie, BG Girl, Amos and Blondie who will all truly miss their master and his love for them.
Visitation will be held from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Newington City Cemetery.
